Here's a (not really a secret) secret. I like winter or wintery conditions until January 1st. So that means I like the early dark nights, falling snowflakes, twinkly lights and pepperminty things of the holiday season. Then I am done. The problem is there is a whole lotta winter (if you live where I do, about 3 more months) to deal with the cold and damp and windy and generally unfriendly weather that goes with it. How do I deal? ........Read More
.......post-Labour Day days really are a wonderful way to reset, reevaluate, and resume (or replace) routines. Here's a few suggestions for staying end-of-summer glow-y even if your days are no longer filled with #eatsleepbeachrepeat.Read More
The good news? Spring is almost here! The bad news? This was a long and incredibly unkind winter for many of us (definitely here in Toronto, where I live) and it has probably taken its toll on our skin. It's also not that warm out yet, and the weather can be just as uncooperative at this time of year as it is in winter. Keeping your skin hydrated is still a big priority, but of course we want to tackle texture and tone issues as well - because who wants to be wearing a ton of makeup when the weather gets warmer.....or ever, for that matter? Here's a look at products that can address your needs now, and be part of your routine all year round.
If things are looking a little rough and uneven right now for your skin....not to mention sensitive, this little wonder from Pai should definitely help you get that glow back. Sensitive skin (like mine) can really be as unpredictable as Spring weather, and Pai has designed their line organic, vegan and cruelty-free products to address its needs. Used a few times a week after cleansing (Pai's Camelia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is a great option for that), Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is a concentrated fruit and seed oil blend that delivers essential fatty acids and skin-boosting carotenoids that your skin needs. Trust me, your skin needs these things, and you shouldn't be afraid of putting oil on your skin. After a few weeks, I've been noticing a difference for sure. My skin looks smoother, and it's definitely doing a number on those little marks from former breakouts and the odd bit of sun exposure that have been hanging around. Plus....my worst enemy after the winter is redness, and I'm definitely seeing improvement in that department.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. (Have I said that enough yet?) Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque is refreshing, oil-free (in case you're an oleophobe, and includeds pantheol, bitter orange and cucumber for to repair, hydrate and reduce inflammation. Use a couple of times a week for a 10 minute moisture boost and then rinse off. Or, if you're like me, just sleep with it on in place of your moisturizer for a little extra extra.
Serums are kind of my best friend. I had no idea until a few years ago....but they should be your friend too. They really are an essential extra step after cleansing and before you moisturize. This little wonder is no exception. Holistic Vanity Extra Care Hyaluronic Lupine Protein Serum repairs damage, softens, boosts skin's immunity, and promotes protein-lipid synthesis helping your skin retain moisture better and boost hydration. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in our own connective tissue, but levels of it decrease as we age. So, you know the drill....slather it on and glow.
As someone who has suffered from some nasty breakouts in the not-so-distant past, I will admit that I have feared primers. This one has been pretty sweet to me though. Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer SPF 30 gives you that always (I mean always) necessary sun protection and a hint of tint while smoothing out any crinkly bits. It also contains peptides and Dermalogica's Age Smart actives to protect against free radical damage. Whether I'm wearing it under makeup or solo, I feel just that little bit more ready to face the world.
